Project Crossroads serves low-income, elderly and handicap families through our Home Rehab ministry. We serve those who are at or below 80% of area medium income our communities. Our service area covers all of Smyth County and portions of Washington, Wythe and Grayson Counties in southwest Virginia. Families must fill out an application and meet income as well as ownership requirements in order for us to assist them. Through this ministry we make repairs that make the home safe, healthy, secure and accessible. The rehab can range from minor repairs to exterior or interior to major repairs on the home. This can be replacing a porch, roof or bathroom; or may be the building of a handicap ramp or rehabbing a bathroom for accessibility.
Most of our rehab projects occur in the late spring to early fall when weather is more conducive to be working outside. Volunteer work teams come from all areas of the US as well as those locally to serve with us in our rehab ministry. Most groups during the summer months are youth/adult teams from churches that spend a week in our communities. We accept junior/middle high, high school and older on the work teams. Teams from late summer to fall and in
spring are usually adult teams or college teams on breaks. Because of the volunteer teams and the resources they bring we are able to serve many more families throughout the year.
