Project Crossroads serves with the Holston Conference Disaster Response program. We have worked in partnership with the conference for over 14 years by helping collect and distribute relief supplies during times of natural disasters. We have two trailers that we use to pick up supplies throughout the conference under the direction of our Conference Disaster Coordinator, Jim Fetzer. Local churches put together cleaning buckets, hygiene kits as well as collect bottled water, staple foods and other needs as determined by UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). These are brought to the district offices where we make arrangements to pick up in preparation for delivery. We deliver these to the Sager Brown UMCOR Depot in Baldwin Louisiana or a staging area determined by the local disaster coordinating team.

Melvin Thweat, owner of Thweat’s Hardware in Atkins Virginia, provides us with warehouse space for our ministries. We are able to store cleaning buckets and hygiene kits that churches are continually putting together and have on hand when called for. In case of flooding near by we can be dispatched directly to a staging area without delay. At present we can store around 2,000 buckets and 1,500 kits and have ready for delivery. In the future we will have a larger space in which we could store 10,000 buckets if needed and many more kits than at present.
